Hilary Lawson

I am Hilary Lawson. I was born and raised in New Hampshire. I went to New Hampshire Institute of Art and received my BFA in Illustration in 2015. I make wood and linoleum block prints, pen and ink art, paintings, wood burnings, and mostly a combination of anything I can get my hands on to complete the vision. I am inspired by wildlife, night time, day time, moss, mysterious moments, and people, amongst so much else.

I don’t have much to say about myself or my work, for me it’s all about the process. I am happiest when I am working on a piece, the end result can feel more like a byproduct of my passion than a finished work of art or a destination reached. I want to feel the sensations of carving a wooden block, the satisfaction of dipping my brush in the ink, I want to think about my subject and what it is like to be them in this physical world. To me, creating art is a way to understand the world around me, and there is always more to learn!
